Remembrance Day
Keeping with tradition poppies were available to raise money for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal. The classes across school marked the annual Remembrance Day with poppy crafts and a minute's silence to reflect.
Children in Need
A fun day was spent from Nursery to Year 4 as we raised money for this worthwhile cause. The children came dressed in spots and stripes and Pudsey adornments.
Anti-Bullying Week
'One Kind Word' was the theme of the week. The children embraced this by taking part in workshops to understand better about being respectful, wearing odd socks to show we are all unique and making bunting to pledge our commitment to kindness.
Christmas Crafts
The children spent a super day creating and making crafts for Christmas... calendars, cards and crowns aplenty!
Harvest
This year's harvest celebration included crafts, singing and sharing what we are thankful for. Our allotment club children harvested the fruits of their labour which was sold to raise money for Noelia our World Vision sponsored child.
Switch Off Fortnight
Our Green Ambassadors led an assembly to launch our energy saving fortnight back in November. We are working hard to maintain our Green Flag status.
Bolivia Day
We raised a total of £171 to support Noelia, the child we sponsor through the World Vision programme. Whilst also learning about the country an its people.
Great Fire Re-creation
Year 2 getting some real life experience of how the fire of London spread so rapidly.
Safer Internet Day
A whole school assembly introduced this year's theme 'All Fun and Games? Exploring respect and relationships online.' With follow up work in the classrooms making posters to inform others of staying safe online.
STEM Week
STEM week was as always, one of the highlights of the year. The children had an exciting, fun packed week with our focus being 'Jobs in STEM'. A big thank you to all our parents who came in to talk to the children about the jobs they do.
Technology Tom Workshops
Children across the school took part in a workshop with Tom to launch our 2022 STEM Week.
Fairtrade Fortnight
Over the course of Fairtrade Fortnight the children took part in two whole school events - keepy uppys with our fairtrade footballs and creating artwork with fairtrade flowers. Other activities linked to Fairtrade took place in each class.
Middle School Transition Day
Year 4 enjoyed an afternoon of food technology at Valley Gardens Middle School. It was a great opportunity for the children to get a snapshot of middle school life.
Stone Age Re-creation
Our Year 3's experienced the Stone Age during an afternoon of building dens, learning about tools and even tasting a drink from neolithic times.
Girls' Football Tournament
Year 4 girls attended Valley Gardens Middle School to take part in England Football and Barclays football session for girls. Young Leaders from Valley Gardens ran a carousel of engaging activities to celebrate fun, friendship and football.
World Book Day
Great fun was had on this year's World Book Day. We dressed up as our favourite characters and had a parade in assembly. In our classes we read for pleasure, wrote reviews and shared our favourite books with our friends.
Year 2 Forest School
Year 2 enjoyed an afternoon creating art using natural things from our forest school area. They created framed pictures which told a story of journey, linking our Geography work planning routes and using geographical language.
Dance Festival
Year 2 were very excited to be performing at the Whitley Bay Playhouse in March. This year's Dance Festival theme being 'Icons'. The children performed their dance 'Strike a Pose' to Madonna's Vogue music and they certainly did impress!
Quick Sticks Tournament
Year 4 had a trip out to Marden Bridge Middle School who hosted the North Tyneside's Quick Sticks festival. They had a great morning using all the skills that they'd picked up in lessons and played really well.
Rugby Tournament
Year 4 took part in a tag rugby tournament run by Access Coaching with several other schools from the local area. They played really well and thoroughly enjoyed their sports afternoon.
Castle Point Winning Teams
Many points were earned throughout the year by all the children displaying fantastic behaviour. The children enjoyed their sports and forest school treats at the end of each half term.

Safety Works
KS 1 children enjoyed an informative and interactive afternoon learning about how to stay safe in different environments. Metro, fire, dog and water safety were just some of the hazards tackled.
Countryside Day
KS 2 visited the Glendale Show near Wooler in Northumberland for a countryside experience. They watched sheepdogs herding their flocks, sheep shearing, learnt about beekeeping, and planted seeds in eco-friendly newspaper pots.
Hawkhirst Residential
Year 4 enjoyed a wonderful week away for their residential trip at Hawkhirst Scout Camp by Kielder Water. An action packed week of challenges, watersports, problem solving and being independent young people.
Healthy Week
Healthy Week was an action packed programme of food workshops, active challenges, skipping, tennis, dance, yoga and competition. We were lucky the sun shone for us too.
Year 3 Dome Visit
To compliment their work in History, Y3 visited the Whitley Bay Dome to learn about how this building has seen changes of use over time. They were excited to be taken up onto the roof for panoramic views of the coast, as well as treated to a sweet treat from the tearooms!
Jubilee Celebrations
Coquet Park have embraced the celebrations to mark the Queen's 70th Jubilee . We had a dedicated day of activities, from crown making to bunting designs and a whole school picnic on the field. There was also an opportunity to join with the Whitley Bay community for tree planting and bunting displays throughout the town centre.
Sports Day
It was lovely to welcome parents back this year to cheer the children on in the highlight of Healthy Week. Events included, sprint, egg and spoon, bean bag retrieval, big feet and balancing a quoit.
Y2 Visit the Rising Sun
As part of their Science work on Living things and their habitats, Year 2 spent a day at the Rising Sun Country Park. They enjoyed activities including pond dipping, environmental art, tree spotting and they studied the effects of the winter storms.
Year 4 Enterprise
Year 4 put on their business heads during Healthy Week this year. Their business plan was to invest, make and sell to a captured market (the sports day crowds), fruit kebabs, fruit cakes, ice pops and loom bands. From an initial investment of £30 for stock/materials they made an impressive £104. Dragon's Den watch out!
Summer Fayre
A wonderful summer's evening was spent enjoying the stalls, games and pizza. Our PTFA worked so hard to make such a successful event and raised an amazing £ for school funds.
Faith & Diversity Day
Children across the school immersed themselves in learning about different world faiths including Islam, Sikhism, Judaism and Hinduism.
Y1 Visit the Rising Sun
Year 1 visited the Rising Sun Country Park to support their work in Science. They created environmental art in the woods and used their senses to help them in their surroundings.
Sing Up Day 2022
Children across the school came together to sing in harmony for the annual Sing Up Day - singing celebration. Love as our Guide was the song of choice and we could definitely feel the love of singing in the hall as the children sang beautifully. Our Coquet Choir then went on to record the track so that we could be part of the collaborative Digichoir with schools across the world!
Pedestrian Training
Reception through to Year 4 learned all about road safety when an expert came into school. We were taught how to cross the road safely and what hazards to look out for when we are out and about.
Wider Opportunities
Children in all year groups have benefited from wider opportunity lessons in music with a specialist music teacher from NTMusic Education Hub. From glockenspiel and djembe drumming in KS1 to violin in KS2. EYFS explored their creative side with a musical 'Around the World' project too.
Stained Glass Window
We have been very honored to have a unique stained glass window made just for our school. Donated by the Glasshouse, a beautiful piece to remember the difficult times when we were all needing to be strong and to not forget those who helped us.
Beach Day
Our Early Years children enjoyed a day at the beach this summer. Much fun was had playing in the sand, talking to the lifeguards and eating a picnic.
Choir Performance
The Coquet Choir finished the year on a high note! Singing a compilation of songs they have learnt in their after school club for parents, grandparents and siblings.
Queen's Baton Relay
Despite the rain, Coquet Park came out to cheer on the participants of the Queen's Baton Relay. A special Jubilee year event to remember, and we were very lucky to have it pass by our school.
Police Visit
Small Group Violin
Some of our Year 4 children have enjoyed their whole class violin lessons so much that they decided to continue their learning. They have taken small group lessons with Mrs Vasey and have made superb progress. Some performed in the end of year Leaver's Assembly to show off their skills - Well done!
